US Reopens 4 Entry Points at Border After Dramatic Drop in Migrant Crossings!

US Reopens 4 Entry Points at Border: The United States is reopening four entry points on its southern border, allowing commercial and legal travel to resume. The decision has been taken following a significant reduction in migrant crossings. Affected ports of entry as you go are in Eagle Pass, Texas, Lakeville and Nogales, Arizona, and San Ysidro, California.

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that these entry points were partially or completely closed due to an increase in immigrant crossings. The decrease in illegal border crossings is attributed in part to efforts by the Mexican government to curb US-bound migration.

The U.S. Border Patrol reported a significant decline, processing about 2,500 immigrants on Monday, compared to the record arrivals reported in December. Mexican authorities have stepped up enforcement actions, including expanding deportations to southern Mexico and Venezuela. Since May, the US has deported more than 460,000 immigrants (about half the population of Montana), including 75,000 family units.

On the domestic front, the White House, along with a bipartisan group of senators, is negotiating a package to make significant changes to asylum and border security laws. Discussions have included Republicans seeking military aid for Ukraine and Israel, as well as funding for border operations. Meanwhile, Democrats support asylum restrictions and deportations, conditional on broader legal authorities for immigrants who illegally cross America’s southern border.

The Biden administration has indicated a willingness to accept tighter limits on asylum and a substantial expansion of detention and deportation efforts. The move comes as border security becomes a focal point, a political challenge for President Biden as he seeks re-election. When asked about the border situation, President Biden emphasized the need for funding to address border security concerns.
